Zeal Hotel - Exeter — Space Landscape Architects

Space LA were appointed as the Landscape Architect for Zeal Hotel’s ‘voco Zeal’on the outskirts of Exeter. With sustainability at the core of the hotel's ethos, we were thrilled to be part of this venture, designing both the soft and hard landscapes surrounding it. Our goal was to create an environment that not only complements the hotel's modern design but also enhances its eco-friendly approach.

In our landscape design, we’ve incorporated a variety of elements that promote sustainability and year-round visual interest. Large ornamental planting areas will add vibrant splashes of color and texture throughout the seasons, while rain gardens are strategically placed to capture surface water runoff. Additionally, a Sustainable Drainage System (SuDs) was integrated into the hotel’s car park area, featuring an island of trees in the car park that uses a load bearing modular crate system which helps manage stormwater and enabling enough uncompacted tree root soil space for them to thrive in a hard landscape setting, the rain gardens on either side of the hotel’s main entrance that capture surface water run-off; these elements are both functional but also create aesthetically pleasing spaces.

The garden benches and long terrace bench were sourced from MMcite, with their modern design and sustainable material finishes complementing the garden design and hotel external finish.

We’re exceptionally happy with the results and excited to observe the changes over time as the plants establish themselves and fill the space with colour and textures.
